Every week up to sixty people have a delicious home cooked meal at St. Bart’s Church. They are undocumented workers, the mentally challenged, guys down on their luck. They are the forgotten, the struggling, the clumsy. Every Sunday, individuals from throughout Westchester honor their dignity by giving them a meal cooked with love.
A few facts
We make more than 2400 meals a year.
Up to sixty people have a delicious home cooked meal every Sunday.
The church subsidizes all the regular expenses.
More than 40 people from all parts of the community volunteer in the kitchen on a regular basis.
Helping is easy.
If you just want to see what it's all about just stop by at 11:00. You'll meet a few people who are setting up and can find you something to do. It's best if we know you are coming.
If you are a member of a group, you can bring food. We ask that you plan to bring food for 60 people: a protein, a vegetable, a green and some dessert. It's probably best if you share the work with others. The coordinator or the rector can suggest meals and how to cook. People from throughout the county are members of clubs that help out. It just takes some planning.
We do have a stove.
The church provides the plates, the cups, the music. We try to make it as dignified and hospitable as possible for these people society has forgotten. We also like it when people sit and get to know them.
You can reach us via the contacts page if you want to know more. Just drop us a line!
We are currently trying to raise money for our fire suppression system so we can continue providing food for those down on their luck.
Can you help? If you don’t have much, $50 would be greatly appreciated. Only 120 people need to give $100. Only 75 would need to give $200.
Checks can be made out to St. Bartholomew’s Church, and are tax deductible. We are also a 501 (c) 3 organization and can receive matching grants from corporations.
