Vestry and Warden Nominees Class of 2012

This Sunday we will have elections to the vestry and for our Jr. Warden.

Aside from keeping the clergy incarcerated, the wardens are primarily responsible for helping ensure unity and good relations between the priest and the vestry and church. In some places they help organize the property by keeping lists of equipment and hiring contractors to maintain the property. The only place the wardens do not have authority is in liturgy and music. If there is no priest, the wardens find supply clergy and work with the bishop to organize the search for a rector.

Church Law (also called the Canons) say that the Vestry shall be agents and legal representatives of the Parish in all maters concerning its corporate property and the relations of the parish to its Clergy.

Karin Almquist (2012)

I grew up in the Bronx, and baptized, confirmed and very active growing up at Redeemer, a Evangelical Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) in the Bronx. I attended public school, but was graduated from Cardinal Spellman in the Bronx. I was graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle with a BBA in Accounting. I had been visiting St. John's in White Plains for about a year, when I finished reading Rick Warrens book, "The Purpose Driven Life." I realized that I need to find a church which I could truly become part of. I found the St. Bart's on the internet. I attended the 8 am mass that same week and felt a real connection.

I have worked for HSBC for 30 years in various finance roles supporting both the retail and securities businesses. I am currently the Business Unit Controller for Private Client Services in midtown NYC.

I have one younger brother, Ed, who lives with his wife in South
Carolina. I am fortunate to still have both my parents who live in Yorktown. I have been a resident of White Plains for 20 years. I share my home with a dear friend of 25 years, Susan Pfeifer.

Interests: nature, wildlife, dogs (owner of a 5 year old Akita male named Kodi), kayaking, photography, webdesign, carpentry, home renovation.

I have, along with Sue, done a great deal of work on renovating my home over the past 20 years.

I envision St. Bart's growing by following Jesus' prime example of
loving & serving God above all and to love, care and support our
neighbors as we would ourselves.

Jim Owen (2010)

Jim came to St. Barts in 2008. He is a born and bred Episcopalian from Louisiana. He is the accountant and controller for a NY based food distributor.

Jim has been responsible for many of the physical improvements around the church, including some of the windowsills, the outside signs, and much of the painting in the front foyer. He is currently trying to sell a house.

Jim loves wine, serving the community, baseball and rides a motorcycle. The rector has heard rumors he was a former pro baseball player.

Recently, Jim and his wife, Laura Owen, a teacher in the NYC school district, represented St. Barts on a trip to Louisiana building houses for Habitat for Humanity.
